This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

This is an extremely exciting role for a graduate electrical engineer as you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and ground-breaking projects that are happening across the UK power sector as we lead the way on large scale EV charging, Renewable and Industrial Electrification projects.

You will be appointed to an experienced Power Industry Electrical Engineer who will be your mentor, you will also work with (and learn from) various technical teams across our business.

You will be mentored through a tailored development plan, with learning and development targets to ensure that you progress your own knowledge, experience and learning. Successful progress will provide you with the knowledge and experience to take on various exciting roles across the power sector and be a part of the green transition.

The role will be flexibly based from the Belfast or Braintree offices in a hybrid-work arrangement.

The following is a list of the key activities that you will have the chance to learn about whilst working alongside our engineers. Note that you won’t be expected to cover everything, we will discuss and tailor a development plan with you that will cover a mix of Electrical Design, Power System Engineering and/or Grid Consultancy activities.

Key Activities

  • Attend meetings with network companies, customers and our engineering teams- supporting our engineering teams.
  • Preparation of compliant and high-quality electrical designs ICP connections
  • Provide innovative solutions to enable grid connections in a timely manner
  • Carrying out capacity calculations, load flow studies, protection studies and earthing studies
  • Ensure designs are compliant with legislation, industry and adopting utility specifications and all HSEQ requirements.
  • Delivering and reviewing electricity infrastructure designs, from budget mark-up through detailed design to successful delivery
  • Liaise with project managers and delivery teams ensuring open and thorough communication channels.
  • Obtain relevant IDNO and DNO approvals
  • Problem solve with other engineering disciplines
  • Powerflow studies and grid assessments using IPSA (formal training will be arranged followed by on the job training from our experienced engineers)
  • Supporting our engineering teams in a range of electrical design related activities, and learning from them as you do so. This includes 11kV, 33kV and 132kV electricity networks across the whole UK.
  • Liaise with and relay technical information to customers and network companies

The following summarise some of the key skills and experience that we can provide you with the opportunity to develop:

Key  Development Areas:

  • Detailed Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry
  • Strong knowledge of DNO and IDNO technical requirements, including G81 standards
  • PV/generation/battery storage technical knowledge
  • Knowledge of IET codes of practice an advantage (Electric Vehicles, PV systems, Electrical Storage)
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 18th edition
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations (G99, G100, P28, P29 etc).
  • Experience in working on utilities or major infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry
  • Effective communication skills, to include management of key working relationships.

We are seeking individuals who are effective communicators with strong problem solving skills.  Highly organised, you will also have a keen eye for detail. 

You will have obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar) with minimum 2:2 grade and be able to demonstrate knowledge of/strong interest in power networks, renewable energy and/or electrification of vehicles.
